# Security

The Translate app is hosted by Google Firebase Functions (Google Cloud) on US-based servers. Source messages are sent for translation only when explicitly requested either via manual translation or for configured channels for automatic translation. For clarity, note that Translate cannot receive nor translate any message from a channel that the `@Translate` bot is not a member of. Translation is powered by Google Translate. All communication between Slack and Google Cloud happens over SSL / HTTPS connections. Neither source nor translated messages are ever stored outside of your Slack workspace.
